Clouds

Our latest PM Program study has been weather.  Ever since we've learned the basic cloud names, I have been inspired to look at the sky and take pictures of the amazing clouds over Vancouver.  Ask your kids if they can tell you the names of the clouds.  You should hear names like cumulus, stratus, cumulonimbus, nimbostratus and cirrus.

Dramatic letters

 So much fun working together!

Drama workshop

Arts Umbrella Stagecoach works with us each year to develop our drama skills.  In this workshop, the kids are working beautifully together to create all the letters of the alphabet.  Can you tell what letters they are making?

Skating

I love these outings!  Our whole school has been going skating 3 times a year for a few years now.  I marvel at how some of our students improve tremendously over those 3 trips!  We have some amazing parents who help us out and we simply couldn't go as often if we didn't have all those parents to tie up all of those skate laces!  I know the kids love going skating!  I do too!

Creating 3D objects

Our kids really enjoyed creating their own 3D objects to explore what a vertex is, an edge is, and what a face is-these are the attributes we use to discuss 3D objects.

Thank you De Dutch!

It really was a great day!  Those pancakes were enormous!  We were stuffed!  De Dutch, thank you so much for the wonderful experience.
As you can see, not too many left-overs here!

De Dutch

Happy pancake eaters at De Dutch!

Fantastic Field Trip to De Dutch

Addi's mum suggested we go on a field trip to De Dutch.  What a great trip that was!  We got to ride the public bus, walk down Oak Street and finish up in a wonderful community based restaurant owned by Addi's grandparents.  They were magnificent hosts showing us around the kitchen and explaining how the pancakes were made.  We got to flip some pancakes and decorate them too!  Of course, the eating was the best part which also taught some valuable lessons about table manners and sharing a meal in a large group in a public restaurant.
The food was delicious!

This is Daniel's very first time eating a pancake!  He loved it!!

Graeme the amaryllis

Meet Graeme!

This lovely plant was given to me a couple of years ago by a previous student.  He continues to bloom each year which always amazes me.  I don't have the greenest thumb in town!

Another happy cookie maker

Couldn't leave out this
happy face!!!!

Cookie Making Collage

Here are more of those happy cookie
makers enjoying one of the most fun
days at the Annex!  And ALL of the
rest of the staff are  ever so grateful to
the many parents who volunteer to make
cookie dough, help the kids make lovely
cookies, bake all the cookies and do ALL
of the cleanup!

Sorting Shapes

In math right now, divisions 1, 2, and 4 have teamed up to explore geometry.  We are discovering lots about 2D and 3D shapes.  They have attributes which allow them to be sorted and compared.  We can see them everywhere!

Our Tree!

I was experimenting with a photo
app that I have on my phone.  And here
is a "groovy" photo of our big tree that
faces Glen Drive.  I think it looks amaz-
ing with this special effect.  This was
taken before the big snowfall and polar
vortex arrived - I'm just so far behind on
posting anything!  I am trying to catch
up but I do apologize for not being a
regular contributor!

One Super Happy Cookie Maker!

Cookie Factory Day!  How
happy does she look!

Sock Snowmen

Grace's mum came in before Christmas
and helped us make these adorable
sock snowmen.  They are so cute and
so easy to make and the kids loved it!
Thank you Nikki!

Cloth

With Mrs. Barr's help, we made this
lovely piece of cloth!

Weaving

When Aika was our star of the week, she brought in a beautiful hand-woven scarf she had made with her Nana.  So we asked her Nana, Mrs. Barr, to come and visit the class and show us what weaving is all about.  The kids all got a turn to try out the mini, table-top loom.  It was fun and incredible to watch a piece of fabric being created in a very short period of time.
